Job Overview
We are seeking a strategic yet deeply technical Data Governance & Classification Lead to architect, deploy, and champion our enterprise-wide data classification and lifecycle framework. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will bridge the gap between technical infrastructure, security engineering, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for defining how structured and unstructured data is discovered, labeled, and protected across our entire cloud and on-premises footprint. Additionally, you will serve as the primary subject matter expert to host internal technical enablement sessions and provide cross-functional consultation to align engineering and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Framework Architecture: Design and implement a robust enterprise data governance and classification policy mapping across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data landscapes.
- Tooling & Automation Engineering: Lead the selection, proof-of-concept (POC), deployment, and fine-tuning of enterprise data discovery and automated tagging solutions.
- Technical Enablement: Conduct internal technical workshops, architectural consultations, and knowledge-sharing sessions to upskill software engineers, DevOps, and data teams on secure data handling and automated metadata tagging workflows.
- Compliance Alignment: Align internal data architectures with local UAE regulatory frameworks (such as UAE Federal Data Protection Laws, UAE Smart Data Framework, and local digital authority standards) alongside international baselines (GDPR, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS).
- Data Security Integration: Partner with security engineers to ensure classification tags seamlessly trigger automated access controls, data masking, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) engines.
- Initiative Leadership: Guide the technical day-to-day discovery tasks, taxonomy updates, and compliance auditing workflows executed by the Data Governance Analyst.
Technical Skills & Tools Required
- Data Governance & Discovery Suites: Advanced, hands-on administrative experience with platforms such as Microsoft Purview (AIP/MIP), Klassify, BigID, OneTrust, Spirion, or Netwrix.
- Cloud Native Security: Deep experience configuring cloud-native classification tools such as AWS Macie, Azure Information Protection, or Google Cloud Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
- Data Infrastructures: Strong understanding of data scanning environments including cloud storage (AWS S3, Azure Blobs), relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), NoSQL stores (MongoDB), and enterprise file shares.
- Data Lineage & Metadata: Practical experience building data catalogs, defining metadata schemas, and configuring automated bidirectional tag synchronization.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Information Security, or Data Architecture, with a proven track record of taking end-to-end technical ownership of engineering initiatives.
- Communication: Exceptional consultation and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently communicate governance objectives to engineering teams and engineering leadership alike.
- Location: Full-time, on-site in the UAE.
