Compliance Officer – Investigations

Role Purpose

The Compliance Officer – Investigations is responsible for leading and managing complex regulatory, financial crime, and internal compliance investigations across the bank. The role ensures allegations of misconduct, fraud, bribery, corruption, sanctions breaches, anti-money laundering (AML) concerns, market abuse, and regulatory breaches are investigated thoroughly, independently, and in line with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

The successful candidate will combine strong investigative expertise with regulatory knowledge to identify root causes, mitigate risk, and support the bank's overall governance and control framework.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Investigations

  • Lead end-to-end investigations into suspected financial crime, regulatory breaches, employee misconduct, fraud, corruption, sanctions violations, insider trading, conflicts of interest, and whistleblower allegations.
  • Assess allegations and determine investigation scope, methodology, priorities, and evidence requirements.
  • Conduct interviews with employees, customers, and third parties using structured investigative techniques.
  • Gather, preserve, and analyse documentary, transactional, electronic, and digital evidence.
  • Produce clear, evidence-based investigation reports with findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Financial Crime & Regulatory Compliance

  • Investigate complex AML, sanctions, anti-bribery & corruption (ABC), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), fraud, and market conduct cases.
  • Review unusual transaction activity and escalate potential Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) where appropriate.
  • Partner with Financial Crime, AML Operations, Legal, Internal Audit, HR, Operational Risk, Cyber Security, and business units throughout investigations.
  • Ensure investigations meet regulatory expectations and internal governance standards.

Regulatory & Governance

  • Support regulatory examinations, external audits, and requests from regulators and law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain investigation records, evidence logs, and case management documentation.
  • Present findings to senior management, compliance committees, and executive stakeholders.
  • Track remediation activities through to completion and validate effectiveness.

Risk & Control Improvement

  • Identify control weaknesses and systemic issues uncovered during investigations.
  • Recommend improvements to policies, procedures, monitoring, and controls.
  • Support thematic reviews across high-risk business areas.
  • Assist in developing compliance monitoring and investigative methodologies.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build trusted relationships across Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit, Legal, HR, Operations, Technology, and business leadership.
  • Provide guidance on investigative best practice.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality while handling highly sensitive matters.
