Job Description for Fin Ops Administrator

Position Summary

The Fin Ops Administrator is responsible for the operational execution of Fin Ops practices, supporting cloud and platform cost visibility, reporting, allocation, and optimization activities across SDD’s environments.

The role focuses on cost data collection, tagging enforcement, reporting, dashboards, budget tracking, and day-to-day Fin Ops operations, working under the guidance of a Senior Fin Ops Analyst or Fin Ops Lead.

This position acts as the bridge between cloud platforms, finance, service management, and technical teams, ensuring cost data is accurate, transparent, and actionable.

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor daily and monthly costs across:
  • Public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Oracle OCI – as applicable)
  • SaaS platforms (M365, security tools, backup, monitoring, etc.)
• Track consumption trends for:
  • Compute, storage, networking
  • PaaS services
  • Platform and shared services (XaaS)
• Identify cost anomalies and elevate to Fin Ops Lead.
• Enforce cloud tagging and labeling standards:
  • Entity
  • Service
  • Cost center
• Validate cost allocation accuracy across:
  • Entities
  • Departments
  • Services
• Support showback and chargeback models by maintaining clean mappings.

3. Fin Ops Tools & Platforms

• Operate and maintain Fin Ops and cost tools such as:
  • Cloud native cost tools (Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, OCI Cost Analysis)
  • Fin Ops platforms (Apptio Cloudability, VMware Aria Cost, or similar)
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency across tools.
• Support automation of reports and alerts.

4. Budget Tracking & Forecasting Support

• Track cloud and platform spending against approved budgets.
• Support forecasting activities by providing:
  • Monthly trend analysis
  • Variance reports
• Flag budget risks early and elevate as appropriate.
• Identify idle or underutilized resources, track unused SaaS licenses, and support rightsizing and cleanup activities with Cloud, Infrastructure, and Service teams.
• Track realized savings and cost avoidance.
• Prepare regular reports for:
  • Daily / weekly cost summaries
  • Monthly showback/chargeback reports for Management, Service owners, Finance stakeholders

7. Service & ITSM Integration

• Collaborate with Service Management teams to:
  • Link services in Service Catalog to cost models
  • Support request-based costing
  • Align CMDB data with cost allocation
  • Support Fin Ops-related service requests and workflows.

8. Governance & Documentation

• Maintain Fin Ops operational documentation:
  • SOPs and runbooks
• Support audits and management reviews with accurate cost data.

Required Experience

• 2–5 years experience in:
  • Cloud operations
  • IT operations support
  • Cost management or budgeting roles
• Exposure to at least one cloud platform and experience working with financial or operational data.

Technical & Analytical Skills

• Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools.
• Understanding of cloud billing concepts.
• Basic understanding of cloud services and cost drivers.

Soft Skills

• High attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Strong coordination and communication skills.
• Ability to work with technical and finance teams.
• Organized, disciplined, and process-oriented.

Preferred Certifications

• Fin Ops Certified Practitioner (or working towards it)
• ITIL v4 Foundation (advantage)
• Accurate and timely cost reports.
• Clean and compliant tagging across environments.
• Documented Fin Ops operational processes.
• Support for optimization and savings tracking.

KPIs

• Accuracy of cost allocation and tagging.
• Timeliness of reports and dashboards.
• Number of cost anomalies detected early.
• Effectiveness for optimization initiatives.
• Stakeholder satisfaction with cost transparency.

Reporting Line

• Reports to:

  Senior Fin Ops Analyst / Fin Ops Lead

• Works closely with:
  Cloud Teams, Infrastructure, Service Management, Finance, Procurement, and Digital teams.
