Job Description
Assists patients, families, and significant others with their psychological, social, environmental, financial, and emotional problems by conducting the needed psychosocial assessments related to presenting problems/concerns and providing the necessary interventions to enhance patient quality of living.
Responsibilities
- Involved in the daily management of workload allocation within the specialist area, taking into account the changing/competing demands and making decisions about prioritization of caseloads.
- Supervise junior staff, ensuring their compliance with rules and policies applied and implemented in the Section/Department/Facility.
- Take Care Management responsibility for vulnerable clients, including comprehensive assessment, formulation of social care plan, identifying resources, coordinating delivery of care plans, and liaising with government or charity agencies.
- Carry out initial comprehensive person-centered psychosocial assessments, plan and implement individual strategies of care, and update patient files as required by JCI.
- Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring that their expressed wishes are central when planning care.
- Consider legal issues for admitted patients and liaise with the admitting authority, police, judicial, prosecution, providing necessary reports for safe discharge.
- Participate in safe and effective decision-making, facilitating timely discharge from bedded units and community teams.
- Liaise with other agencies (government, charity) to maintain professional relationships.
- Direct patients/families to appropriate resources and support.
- Follow up with psychiatric visits from other hospitals, assessing patient case, recording unusual conditions, documenting examination time, room number.
- Respect rights of service users and families, embracing values, spiritual beliefs and customs.
- Follow up with approved ER exempted cases, ensuring treatment coverage processed and directed.
- Promote awareness of social care/social work context and anti-discriminatory practice, facilitating multidisciplinary work.
- Network and liaise with professionals and external organizations to provide services, and challenge where necessary.
- Negotiate diverse needs with providers/agencies, coordinate organization of care packages, facilitate access to resources and information.
- Enable and empower individuals/families, advocating rights, nurturing strengths, assisting informed choices in complex life decisions.
- Maintain and promulgate highest standards of clinical record-keeping, including electronic data entry, report writing, and professional self-governance.
- Manage frequent exposure to distressing circumstances, maintaining mental effort and concentration.
- Maintain confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and others per professional codes and legislation.
- Provide crisis interventions as needed.
- Participate in complex discharge planning with multidisciplinary team, ensuring smooth transition for patient and family.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss and advocate for patient/family needs.
- Engage in psychoeducation, direct therapeutic interventions as warranted.
- Evaluate, assist and counsel children and caregivers regarding child protection issues.
- Contribute to breaking bad news and the bereavement process following facility’s best practices.
- Be familiar with mental health laws, including Federal law No. (10) of 2023 concerning mental health.
- Recognize differences in culture, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, language, socio-economic status.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines, safeguard vulnerable populations.
- Apply effective communication skills; build rapport; provide comfort and support.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues; maintain professional conduct; manage workplace conflicts.
- Reflect on personal biases, practice self-care to prevent burnout.
- Report abuse or neglect of children or vulnerable adults to appropriate authority and document findings.

- Ensure compliance with safety and quality control programs.
