We are seeking a skilled Chiller Technician to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair refrigeration and chiller units mounted on light commercial vehicles and trucks (refrigerated vans, light-duty transport vehicles, and small commercial delivery trucks). The ideal candidate will ensure all mobile cooling systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with environmental and transport regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair chiller and refrigeration units on light vehicle trucks, including compressor systems, evaporators, condensers, and electrical controls.
- Diagnose faults in mobile refrigeration systems using pressure gauges, multimeters, and diagnostic tools; perform root-cause analysis and implement repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on vehicle-mounted chiller units to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Inspect and test refrigeration systems for leaks, temperature accuracy, and energy efficiency; recharge refrigerants as needed.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical failures in HVAC-R systems, including wiring, sensors, thermostats, and VSDs (Variable Speed Drives).
- Maintain accurate service records for each vehicle, including repair logs, refrigerant usage, and parts replaced.
- Ensure compliance with EPA refrigerant handling regulations, OSHA safety standards, and local transport refrigeration codes.
- Communicate clearly with drivers, fleet managers, and dispatch regarding job status, repair timelines, and maintenance recommendations.
- Keep company service vehicle clean, organized, and stocked with necessary tools, parts, and refrigerants.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns promptly, including after-hours on-call rotations when required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with major chiller brands (Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin, Trane, etc.)
- Knowledge of transport refrigeration regulations and cold-chain compliance
- Basic computer skills for logging service reports and using mobile dispatch software
