Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Chief Engineer to lead and manage the Engineering and Maintenance operations of our hotel. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all hotel facilities, equipment, and building systems while maintaining the highest standards of guest comfort, safety, and operational excellence.
The Chief Engineer will lead the engineering team, oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs, manage contractors and service providers, control departmental budgets, and ensure compliance with UAE regulations, health and safety requirements, and hotel standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Engineering and Maintenance Department.
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all hotel facilities, guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and technical equipment.
- Oversee HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, BMS, fire and life-safety systems, generators, elevators, kitchen equipment, swimming pools, and other hotel systems.
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Conduct regular inspections and ensure maintenance issues are identified and resolved promptly.
- Lead, train, coach, and develop the Engineering team to achieve high standards of performance and service.
- Prepare duty schedules, allocate work assignments, and monitor team performance.
- Ensure compliance with UAE regulations, Civil Defence requirements, health and safety standards, environmental requirements, and hotel policies.
- Manage engineering budgets, operating expenses, maintenance costs, and CAPEX projects.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and service providers.
- Monitor and manage Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) and statutory inspections.
- Implement energy and water conservation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Support hotel renovations, refurbishments, and engineering projects from planning through completion.
- Respond effectively to technical emergencies and equipment breakdowns with minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, maintenance logs, equipment inventories, and statutory documentation.
- Work closely with the General Manager and other department heads to ensure smooth hotel operations and exceptional guest satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost reduction, energy efficiency, and asset reliability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of engineering/maintenance experience in the hospitality industry, preferably within a 4- or 5-star hotel environment.
- Proven experience in a Chief Engineer, Director of Engineering, or Cluster Chief Engineer position.
- Strong technical knowledge of hotel MEP systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BMS, fire and life safety systems, and building maintenance.
- Experience managing engineering teams, contractors, budgets, CAPEX, and maintenance projects.
- Strong knowledge of UAE health, safety, fire and life safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance and asset management.
- Experience with energy management and sustainability initiatives is an advantage.
- GCC/UAE hospitality experience is highly preferred.
