Position Overview
The Chief Accountant is responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supervising the accounting team, overseeing month-end and year-end closing activities, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with IFRS, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. The role supports the Finance Manager/CFO by providing accurate financial information, maintaining strong internal controls, and coordinating with internal and external auditors.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Record and maintain financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and financial documentation.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in preparing periodic financial statements and management reports.
- Reconcile account balances and investigate discrepancies.
- Support the preparation of schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process invoices, payment requests, and other accounting transactions.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable activities and follow up as required.
- Coordinate with internal departments regarding financial documentation and approvals.
- Maintain supporting records for financial transactions.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure accounting activities comply with company policies, financial procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain complete accounting documentation and filing records.
- Support internal and external audit activities by providing the required financial documentation.
Coordination & Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate with Finance team members and other departments to resolve accounting-related matters.
- Prepare accounting reports and provide updates as requested.
- Contribute to process improvements and the standardization of accounting practices.
Required Qualifications
- Education Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Relevant Experience: 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role, preferably within contracting, construction, industrial, manufacturing, or multi-business organizations.
- Professional Certifications (if applicable): SOCPA, CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent
