We are seeking an experienced Chief Accountant with strong expertise in insurance accounting, financial reporting, and IFRS requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, leading financial reporting activities, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, regulatory reporting, audit, and actuarial coordination.
The ideal candidate will have strong practical knowledge of IFRS 17, IFRS 16, and IFRS 9, with proven experience in the insurance industry and the ability to lead the Finance team while providing accurate and timely financial information to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records.
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting packs.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations, provisions, accruals, and financial adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable IFRS requirements, with particular focus on IFRS 17, IFRS 16, and IFRS 9.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory and statutory financial reports in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors and ensure the timely completion of annual audits, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with external actuaries and review IFRS 17 actuarial outputs, assumptions, calculations, and related financial reporting figures.
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts, including variance analysis and performance monitoring.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, receivables, payables, and working capital and provide relevant financial analysis to management.
- Review and monitor general ledger accounts, bank reconciliations, intercompany balances, and other key accounting reconciliations.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment for insurance-related transactions and other financial activities in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare MIS reports, financial analysis, and management information to support business and financial decision-making.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for Executive Management and the Board of Directors, as required.
- Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls, accounting procedures, and reporting processes.
- Support finance-related ERP implementation, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting and financial reporting processes.
- Lead, supervise, and develop Finance team members, ensuring appropriate allocation of responsibilities and effective performance.
- Provide financial and accounting advice to management and other departments as required.
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned by management.
