Job Overview
As a Category Analyst, you must have a commercial mindset and great comprehension of product assortment leading to sales and margin performance. The goal is to increase sales and profitability through the definition of the products we sell and at what price, also leading projects to add or delist brands/products including private label. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a keen understanding of assortment management. This role is pivotal in driving revenue and absolute margin growth through well-planned and executed strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Management: Responsible for the balance between revenue and margin, working with levers like price, promotion and mix to achieve company’s targets on top line and profitability
Assortment Review: Conduct thorough category analysis to understand internal performance of categories and brands, and identify potential gaps in product availability; Establish assortment review process, from analysis to actions, in a way we manage each category in our product range with a specific approach
Project Management: Lead initiatives from A-Z, for example to change the assortment of such category (add and delist products/brands) or the launch of own brands, from building the market trend/ideation to the commercialization of such products, along with the operational management to get things done (supplier/vendor management, negotiations, internal alignment with marketing for packages and other requirements, also supply chain)
Internal Alignment: Collaboration with sales (e-commerce and stores), marketing, supply chain and finance teams for the review, sign-off and execution of initiatives
Price Review: Recommend pricing adjustments based on analytical findings to optimize profitability; establish a process to review & approve price changes , also to track performance afterwards
Reporting and Recommendations: Prepare detailed reports summarizing category performance, sales trends, and key insights.
Brand & Supplier Negotiation: Lead strategic meetings with brands to review category KPIs and performance trends, ensuring data-driven decision-making. Negotiate commercial investment terms to optimize trade spend, promotional funding, and supplier contributions.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field
At least 5 years of experience in a similar role and/or previous experience managing product assortment within a retailer or a brand.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and trends.
Proven ability to build relationships with brands and vendors and negotiate trade investment.
Understanding of sales elasticity and financial impact of prices &promotions.
