What You’ll Do
This role splits time between high-finish pre-fabrication in our workshop and hands-on installation/dismantling directly on-site at major exhibition halls.
- In the Workshop: Interpret 2D/3D shop drawings and cutting lists. Measure, cut, and shape MDF, plywood, and laminates using panel saws and workshop machinery. Build custom reception counters, feature walls, and display showcases. Apply high-pressure laminates (HPL) and veneers.
- On-Site (Build-Up & Strike): Safely pack and load fabricated structures. Assemble raised flooring platforms, structural walls, and custom furniture within strict venue move-in windows. Troubleshoot alignment issues on the fly. Efficiently pull down the stand post-event, preserving reusable materials.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 1+ years in custom joinery, with at least 2 years specifically in exhibitions, events, or high-end shopfitting.
- Material & Tool Mastery: Advanced skills working with MDF, plywood, chipboard, and high-pressure laminates (HPL). Precision technique with edge-banding and seamless jointing.
- Blueprint Literacy: Ability to confidently build straight from complex technical drawings.
- The "Event" Mindset: Ability to stay calm and work fast under intense on-site time constraints.
- Tools: Must own your own standard set of professional hand tools (specialist machinery provided).
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Physical Effort: This is a demanding role. You must be comfortable with heavy lifting, bending, working on ladders/scaffolding, and standing for long periods.
- Schedule Flexibility: Exhibition timelines are strict. You must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, late nights, weekends, and overnight shifts during major event build-ups and strikes.
- Travel: Occasional travel to various event venues and exhibition centers.
