About the role:
The BDM WENA serves as the regional business development leader for West, Central, North, and East Africa. This is a green-field development role requiring strong entrepreneurial capabilities and regional expertise. The BDM leads a team of four PLSMs across distinct territories (NWA, WA, NEA, EA) and is responsible for market analysis, partner identification, go-to-market strategy, team development, and sales execution. Based in Dubai with extensive regional travel.
Responsibilities:
- Size markets and assess opportunities by country
- Build go‑to‑market strategies for each territory
- Define pricing, positioning, and channel strategy (wholesale, retail, e‑commerce, direct)
- Track competitors and market trends
- Identify and evaluate distribution and retail partners
- Develop partner value propositions and business cases
- Negotiate and finalize agreements
- Onboard, support, and manage partner operations
- Monitor partner performance and drive retention and growth
- Train and onboard PLSM team members
- Set performance expectations and KPIs
- Provide coaching, support, and performance management
- Develop team capabilities for future growth
- Build sales forecasting methodology
- Establish KPI tracking across territories
- Lead monthly reporting and forecast reviews
- Monitor revenue, margin, and growth targets
- Analyze performance and implement corrective actions
- Understand import/export requirements by country
- Coordinate logistics, shipments, and fulfillment
- Manage inventory and ensure regulatory compliance
- Optimize supply chain efficiency and resolve operational issues
Requirements:
- 10+ years in international business development or regional management
- 5+ years in African markets or emerging market environments (highly valued)
- Proven experience launching new products or entering new markets
- Track record of building and scaling sales teams
- Experience with diverse distribution channels and market entry strategies
- Non-Food FMCG Experience
- Ability to develop market strategies from market research
- Strong analytical skills and ability to conduct market research
- Capability to establish scalable processes and systems
- French language is considered an advantage (for WECA coverage)
- Arabic proficiency (preferred for North Africa)
- English fluency (required)
- Based or willing to relocate to Dubai
- Extensive travel comfort (40-50% expected)
Annual Task Plan Overview:
Q1: Conduct market analysis; identify partners; develop go-to-market strategy; develop PLSM recruitment plan
Q2: Complete PLSM recruitment; sign initial partners; implement operational framework; begin revenue generation
Q3: Scale partner operations; acquire new customers; optimize pricing; build market presence
Q4: Consolidate gains; achieve targets; plan for expansion; prepare for FY2027 growth
