The Battery Bay Supervisor reports to the Armament and Avionic Workshop Controller and is an experienced aircraft electrical supervisor, undertaking a range of detailed maintenance activities in the Aircraft Battery Bay.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining airworthiness through appropriate task delegation and authorisation on aircraft batteries and associated equipment, and for demonstrating awareness of broader external dependencies and identifying areas for continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
Core Activities
- Undertaking detailed maintenance and inspection activities on aircraft battery components, ensuring work is completed in accordance with the SOW/Work package and relevant approved technical information, and resolving faults and maintenance issues, including awareness of configuration management.
- Standing up the initial Battery Bay before aircraft deliveries.
- Undertaking and completing tasked maintenance & diagnostic activities, which may include component removals, inspections, repairs, modifications, fault rectifications, replacements, and/or functional/system tests.
- Demonstrating a flexible and proactive attitude to responsibilities appropriate to the role and taking direction appropriately.
- Maintaining personal and team task authorisation for working on aircraft or components in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Supporting maintenance tasks within the battery facility required to maintain compliance with the MOE and regulatory procedures (e.g., oversight checks, control of tooling/test equipment).
- Evaluating faults and raising ad‑hoc work cards for found faults during maintenance.
- Supervising the team to ensure maintenance is undertaken on schedule, highlighting issues, escalating as required, and reporting any impact to the wider programme.
- Ensuring staff are competent and approved for the maintenance tasks allocated to them.
- Meeting agreed delivery targets in the short to medium term through supervision of others and progress reporting against delivery targets to management.
- Providing guidance and leadership to the team, developing team members using formal assessment processes (e.g., PDRs) and supporting training requests, including on‑the‑job training.
- Maintaining a personal log book to demonstrate currency and recency, signing other personnel’s log books as appropriate, and if approved as a designated assessor, undertaking authorisation, task competency approvals, and checking Part 145 license application packs prior to submission.
Key Accountabilities
- Performance indicators: Ensure effective management of Part 145 activities by setting delivery targets, monitoring progress, and developing performance improvement programmes; prioritise activities within and across teams to maximise efficiency; assess escalated issues for impact on continuing airworthiness and generate effective resolution.
- Completion of activities: Ensure all Part 145 activities are documented and airworthiness records maintained on relevant systems; ensure activities are performed by suitably qualified, experienced, and authorised personnel; integrate Part 145 activity within the business and engage key stakeholders; provide support and guidance to the team.
- Procedure / standards: Comply with the regulatory framework, associated procedures and standards, and any other company procedures; identify and propose changes as required.
- Safety Management System: Promote application of human factors, error management, risk management and safety assurance within the Part 145 team, along with proactive analysis, mitigation and management of hazards.
- Management System Assurance: Ensure maintenance activities are compliant with the QAF Governance and Assurance framework, support process confirmations and independent assurance audits, and respond to audit findings in a timely manner.
- Statutory / Regulatory & Legislative requirements: Demonstrate appropriate understanding and application of the continuing airworthiness regulatory framework; support implementation of regulatory driven changes; ensure compliance with other requirements, e.g., ITAR, EaPW, ISO.
