Job Specification
• Act as the primary liaison and first point of contact for ATC, RFF, Ground Handling Agents, Airlines, Engineering, and external stakeholders on all airside operational matters during the shift, escalating to the Head of Airside Operations where required.
• Ensure strict enforcement of Airside Driving Regulations (ADR), Apron Discipline, and all active Airside Driving Permits (ADP) and Airside Vehicle Permits (AVP) throughout the shift; direct shift inspectors to act on violations and authorize the issuance of Non-Compliance Notices (NCN).
• Coordinate and direct Wildlife Hazard Management activities during the shift, ensuring that wildlife observations are reported, logged, and acted upon in accordance with the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan, and that the runway and movement area remain safe for operations.
• Oversee apron safety and operational discipline across all apron zones, including monitoring of ground handling activities, FOD prevention, fuel safety compliance, and resolution of apron.
• Authorize and oversee emergency and contingency responses for airside-specific incidents during the shift — including runway/taxiway incursions, ground handling accidents, FOD alerts, fuel spills, airside vehicle accidents, and wildlife strikes — in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) and Airside Operations contingency procedures.
• Complete, review, and submit comprehensive shift log reports capturing all significant events, incidents, operational decisions taken, and handover notes for each shift, ensuring accurate and auditable records for the Head of Airside Operations.
• Conduct or delegate shift airside inspections of the movement area, apron, perimeter roads, and active worksites, ensuring compliance with ICAO Annex 14 standards, aerodrome certification requirements, and airport operational procedures.
• Represent Airside Operations in real-time coordination calls, Airside Operations Room meetings, and pre/post-flight briefings during the shift as required.
Human and Technical Resources
• Direct and coordinate the full complement of Airside Operations shift staff across all sections for the duration of the shift, ensuring appropriate task allocation, coverage of all operational zones, and staff welfare.
• Utilize the available management systems, stand planning tools, NOTAM databases, radio communication systems, and CCTV/surveillance platforms to maintain real-time situational awareness and operational control throughout the shift.
• Ensure all shift operational vehicles and equipment are serviceable and deployed effectively; report unserviceable assets to the Head of Airside Operations and Engineering for immediate action.
Planning and Programme
• Review and brief all shift staff on the daily flight programme, scheduled airside works, active NOTAMs, planned closures, and any regulatory or safety advisories at shift commencement.
• Contribute shift-level observations and operational data to the continuous improvement of Airside Operations procedures, SOPs, and contingency plans by providing structured feedback to the Head of Airside Operations.
Core Operational Activities
• Execute structured shift start and shift end handovers, ensuring all active permits, incidents, NOTAMs, ongoing works, and outstanding actions are clearly communicated and transferred to the incoming duty manager.
• Authorize real-time operational decisions including temporary runway/taxiway restrictions, emergency equipment pre-positioning, and suspension of airside work activities when safety is at risk.
• Coordinate the activation and stand-down of airside emergency responses for airside-specific incidents, ensuring all relevant parties (ATC, RFF, Ground Handlers, Engineering, airside operations team) are notified and deployed in accordance with the AEP.
• Monitor and enforce FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) prevention programmes across all apron and movement area zones, directing FOD inspections and ensuring immediate clearance of any identified debris.
Human Resources Management
• Provide direct line management, mentoring, and performance evaluation for all operational shift subordinates in alignment with the airport HR and competency framework.
• Manage leave planning, duty rosters, and workforce scheduling to ensure continuous, uninterrupted operational coverage of all shift functions.
• Identify training and career development opportunities for Operations Section staff and foster a safety-first, accountability-driven team culture.
