Position: Agricultural Extension Officer (ضابط إرشاد زراعي)
Job Objective:
Facilitate and provide technical support to farmers regarding the provision of technical information and knowledge transfer for all agricultural activities and related ones to improve their performance andsustainability.
Reports to:Head of Extension and Plant Health Services Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise production operations and crop quality, and keep up with the latest knowledge about plants and pests, ensuring that actual production aligns with specified production goals.
Oversee the development of farms in the area and their management by implementing best agricultural practices, encouraging knowledge andskill enhancement, and promoting practices among farmers and farm owners through agricultural services staff.
Apply best agricultural practices,moderntechniques, agricultural standards, and appropriate good agricultural practices for the model farm, which contributes to maintaining environmental biodiversity.
Participate in the implementation of the planned crops, their types, quantities, harvesting methods, and detailed planting and harvesting schedules.
Conduct periodic guidance visits and technical programs for the model farm and agricultural guidance aimed at developing the capabilities of farm managers, supervisors, and workers in adopting and implementing best practices in line with the authority’s strategy and in coordination with relevant authorities.
Implement guidance programs to improve the knowledge and skills of protected agriculture producers, the ability of farm owners, farm workers, and guidance employees to understand soil-based systems.
Provide technical training and guidance to farmers and farm owners to ensure compliance with existing regulations, enhance thesustainabilityof agricultural practices, and care for plants according to the specified standards and requirements in the irrigation and smart agriculture section, ensuring the adoption of good agricultural practices (GAP) and developing the farm as an economic unit and issuing certificates of good agricultural practice (GAP).
Interact with contracted farmers to evaluate their farms and provide the necessary technical recommendations to improve production andsustainabilityand enhance plant care to supply the authority with the contracted quantities with guaranteed quality.
Transfer knowledge to farmers about the results of applied research experiments and studies conducted by research departments in the authority.
Provide technical information to farmers on how to implement integrated pest management andfood safetyprograms, including standardization of how to monitor pests and diseases, evaluate them, develop a plan for remedial and preventive measures, detect pests and diseases, and use pesticides and pesticide residues safely and measure before and after spraying.
Communicate with farmers to inform them about government support programs, how to apply for them, and use them, and the methods approved for optimal production.
Ensure the internal inspection of farms holding international and UAE good agricultural practice certificates for the relevant region, implement all standards, and take corrective measures according to the monthly inspection plan for the area.
